2011-2012 Uganda Endeavor
Imagine spending your New Year’s evening resting by the fireplace and eating fried grasshoppers! That is the delicatessen in Uganda to munch on while celebrating an event such as New Years in Africa. The day after Christmas, 2011, I plan on hopping on a plane and visiting Uganda for 12 days.
My next endeavor to Uganda is planned on December 26th, 2011. This trip will require much prayer and more financial support. Additional details will follow as they are confirmed with contacts in Uganda.
Here are some of the next trip’s objectives and estimated costs:
1. Visit 20 community schools/orphanages within the Kampala/Gaba region where 20 biosand water filters have been installed by a local water filtration company. Cost of the filters: $2,500
2. Finalize the incorporation of Patrick’s Children of Uganda (PCU), a future non-governmental organization in Uganda that will lease fertile farm land at discounted rates to qualified orphanages, and teach the caretakers how to become more self-sufficient through the use of agricultural and poultry projects on the plots of land. Cost: $2,000
3. Finalize the purchase of 20+ acres of fertile farm land in the Raika district, and set up monthly training sessions for qualified orphanages to teach them to become more self sufficient and less reliant on financial donors. Cost: $20,000.
4. Revisit 5 of the most severely needy orphanages found in early 2010 and purchase requested supplies by the caretakers for the children. Cost: $1,000.
5. Build 2 rabbit farms within 2 designated orphanages to increase the intake of protein in the diets of the children who reside at the locations. Cost: $3,000.
6. Add 5 sewing machines at one of the sewing schools created in 2010 and purchase necessary sewing supplies in Kampala. Cost: $600
7. Airfare, visa, medications, food, travel, accommodations and host gifts: $4,000.
Estimated Costs Involved: $33,100
This planned endeavor will indeed start new avenues of sharing God’s love for the children of Uganda. Please continue to pray for these children and the projects that Patrick’s Children has planned and for those projects currently operating/being managed in the country.
